- Following the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Higher Education Supervision and Evaluation Authority regarding the achievement of sustainable development goals, under the supervision and attendance of the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, and as part of the activities of the second semester, the Department of Computer Science organized a workshop titled "Digital Transformation as a Path to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals". The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Suheir Mohammed Zaki in the late Dr. Imad Kadhim hall on Monday, 2024/2/26, with the participation of students and faculty members from the department and the university. The workshop addressed the concept of sustainable development, its dimensions, goals, digital transformation, the relationship between digital transformation and sustainable development, and the challenges involved. Sustainable development is a socio-economic term outlined by the United Nations to map environmental, social, and economic development globally. The United Nations has set (17) goals for sustainable development on September 15, 2015. Each goal has an indicator, and when the indicator is fulfilled, the goal is achieved. These goals include eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring good health, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation, and infrastructure, reducing inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice, and strong institutions, and partnerships to achieve these goals. Digital transformation is a radical change in switching from manual and analog processes to digital ones in every aspect of business to create better outcomes. It gradually transforms governments and companies, making them more competitive and providing numerous opportunities for economic growth and prosperity. In conclusion, the department head, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, awarded a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer in recognition of her efforts in delivering the lecture.
