Head of the Computer Science Department Commends Students for Preparing a Guidebook on Linux Fundamentals
The Department of Computer Science appreciates the efforts of student Muhaimen Ahmad Katouf from the Computer and Cybersecurity branch, second year, for preparing a booklet on Linux fundamentals in cybersecurity, under the supervision of the branch head, Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Hazem Ibrahim. Additionally, student Mohammad Khudair Khairallah, second year from the Artificial Intelligence branch, completed the design and review of the book under the supervision of the branch head, Dr. Mustafa Jasim. The first edition of the book was presented to the department head, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, who expressed his pride and appreciation for the students' accomplishment during their meeting in his office on Monday, 2024/3/18, in the presence of the scientific deputy, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Maulood, the head of the Computer and Cybersecurity branch, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad Hazem Ibrahim, and the head of the Artificial Intelligence branch, Dr. Mustafa Jasim. He encouraged them to continue with research projects and offered support. It's noteworthy that the booklet produced by the department's students was a collaborative effort with students from Al-Isra University.

A faculty member from the Department of Computer Science serves as a member of a doctoral student's defense committee.
A faculty member from the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Eyad Rawdan Abbas, participated as a member of the doctoral thesis defense committee for the student (Dhulfiqar Hakim Daif) from the Department of Production and Metals Engineering, specializing in Industrial Engineering. The thesis is titled "Developing GT Approach Adopting Multi-Criteria Job Sequence in Multi Product Lines." The defense took place on Wednesday, 2024/3/13, in the late Professor Dr. Ibrahim Mahmoud Mansour hall.

A lecturer from the Department of Computer Science was promoted from the rank of Assistant Lecturer to the rank of Lecturer.
In accordance with the decisions of the Central Committee for Scientific Promotions for the academic year 2023-2024, and with the approval of the University President, due to fulfilling all the requirements for scientific promotion, it has been decided to promote Assistant Lecturer Osama Younis Fadel to the rank of Lecturer.

The Launchpad Program: This program assists individuals who own projects that are still under development, small projects, or medium-sized enterprises in the job market to launch or develop their projects to advanced stages. It offers intensive training for a duration of 3 months for project owners. The training is conducted by experts and specialists in the Iraqi market, its analyses, and administrative regulations. This program is implemented by Compotec company, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Iraq.

Students of the Computer Science department, Multimedia branch, organize an awareness campaign against suicide.
Under the supervision of the head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazim Farhan, and in the presence of the scientific assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlud, the Multimedia branch of the Computer Science Department organized an awareness campaign titled "No to Suicide". Supervised by the head of the Multimedia branch, Dr. Rana Mohammed Hassan, and the director of the Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations Division, Lecturer Taiba Waleed Khairy, the seminar was conducted by students of the Multimedia branch on Thursday, 2024/3/14, in the Dr. Imad Kazim hall in the Computer Science Department building.
The awareness lecture serves as a call to life and a rejection of suicide, which is defined as the act in which a person intentionally causes their own death. It is often attributed to psychological disorders such as depression due to despair, and the antidote to despair is faith. Therefore, individuals should always have faith in God and derive from it faith in themselves to face their crises with patience and perseverance, avoiding surrender. This principle is affirmed by all heavenly religions, considering the human being as a supreme value whose duty is to love the life granted by God Almighty. The lecture also highlighted the crucial role of the family in raising an individual to be healthy, free from psychological disorders, and capable of overcoming crises with their support and care. It emphasized the necessity of diagnosing cases suffering from psychological disorders to receive appropriate treatment for their reintegration into society. At the end of the lecture, the scientific assistant, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlud, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Multimedia branch students for conducting this informative student activity.

Rehabilitation of Lecture Halls in the Department of Computer Science
Under the direct supervision and exceptional efforts of the head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and with the combined efforts of the Maintenance and Services divisions, to prepare the best academic environment for our dear students in pursuit of their scientific advancement, lecture halls (8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14) in the annex building of the Department of Computer Science have been rehabilitated. The rehabilitation included the maintenance of lighting networks, painting of walls, and the refurbishment of cooling devices. Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan stated that the campaign aims to improve the infrastructure of our department and to overcome difficulties for our dear students.

The President of the Technological University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, extended his thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Ikhlas Faleh Nasir for her outstanding efforts in publishing rigorous scientific research in journals indexed within the Scopus repository. The first research titled "Tesseract OpenCV Versus CNN: A Comparative Study on The Recognition Of Unified Modern Iraqi License Plates" and the second research titled "Iraq License Plate Detection Using Edges And Contours With Different Acquisition Conditions," hoping for her continued contribution to the benefit of our university and beloved Iraq.

The Educational Guidance Unit in the Computer Science Department Holds a Meeting with First-Year Students for the Second Semester
Under the presence of the head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Educational Guidance Unit in the Computer Science Department held a meeting with first-year students, attended by the head of the Information Systems Branch, Associate Professor Dr. Ikhlas Faleh Nasser, the head of the Software Branch, Associate Professor Dr. Adhraa Jassim Mohammed, and the director of the Educational Guidance Unit, Dr. Mohammed Ghani, on Wednesday, 2024/3/13, in the late Dr. Imad Kadhim hall in the Computer Science Department building.
During the meeting, the department head emphasized the necessity of adhering to modest attire and maintaining good behavior within the university, attending lectures, participating in activities and events organized by the department, and paying attention to personal hygiene. He also highlighted the importance of communicating with the subcommittees of the Educational Guidance Unit if needed.

National Tree Planting Day Events Kick Off in the Computer Science Department
Coinciding with the initiation of the tree planting initiative to combat desertification by the Prime Minister Engineer Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, and in execution of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's plan which designated March 12th as National Tree Planting Day, under the supervision and presence of the head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, along with the participation of the head of the Multimedia Branch, Dr. Rana Mohammed Hassan, and the director of the Department of Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations, Teacher Taiba Walaa Al-Din Khairy, students from the Computer Science Department commenced their activities. Multimedia Branch students designed event-specific posters and displayed them in the department's garden to achieve sustainable development goals and increase green spaces.

Volunteer Campaign for Planting Seedlings in the Computer Science Department on National Tree Planting Day
Under the patronage of the head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and in line with the principle of tree planting and gardening at the university on National Tree Planting Day, third-year Information Systems students in the Computer Science Department planted 20 seedlings in the department's garden. The activity was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suheir Mohammed Zaki, a faculty member in the Computer Science Department, as part of the department's student volunteer efforts.

Environmental Awareness Volunteer Student Campaign in the Multimedia Branch
Within the student activities of the Computer Science Department, first-year students of the Multimedia branch, under the supervision of the branch head Dr. Rana Mohammed Hassan and the Director of the Scientific Affairs and Cultural Relations Department Dr. Taiba Waleed Al-Din Khairy, carried out a volunteer awareness campaign by creating posters about the importance of trees and their impact on the environment, considering it one of the goals of sustainable development. In the same context, the fourth-year student Milad Dreed generated images using artificial intelligence on the same topic.

A Delegation from the Faculty of Computer Science at Baghdad College of Economic Sciences Visits the Computer Science Department at the Technological University
Within the framework of the twinning agreement between the Software Engineering branch of the Computer Science Department at the Technological University and the Department of Computer Science at Baghdad College of Economic Sciences, a delegation from the teaching staff of the Department of Computer Science at Baghdad College of Economic Sciences visited the Computer Science Department at the Technological University on Monday, 2024/3/11. They were received by the Scientific Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlud, Head of the Software Engineering branch Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Jasim Mohammed, Head of the Multimedia branch Dr. Rana Mohammed Hassan, and the teaching staff of the department.
During the meeting, there was a discussion with the teaching staff of the corresponding subjects included in the joint exam between the two departments, which had been previously agreed upon, and topics related to this matter were discussed.
