The first semester examinations for the first stage students in the Department of Computer Science for the academic year 2023-2024 have commenced
Today, Tuesday, 2024/1/30, in the Department of Computer Science, the first semester examinations for the first stage students of the academic year 2023-2024 began. The Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, conducted an inspection tour of the examination halls, during which he emphasized the importance of adhering to the instructions issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to successfully complete the examination process and facilitate any obstacles for the students to provide a suitable environment for them. He also appreciated the efforts made by the examination committees in managing the conduct of the exam.

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology conducted the comprehensive examination for PhD students (second trial)
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, the Department of Computer Science held the comprehensive examination for PhD students (second trial) on Monday, 2024/1/29. The exam was conducted in accordance with the specific conditions and requirements of the comprehensive examination set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, preparing the students for the research phase. All students attended the three-hour examination, which was conducted amidst significant preparations by the department. Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, during his rounds in the examination halls, confirmed that the exam was carried out smoothly, adhering to the comprehensive examination's conditions and requirements. It is important to note that the final results will be announced after conducting the oral examination before the respective comprehensive examination committees for each student, scheduled for 2024/2/12.

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology has developed a new logo
The Department of Computer Science has introduced a new logo for the department, inspired by the nature of the department and its specializations. The logo features two tall, parallel pillars, one orange and the other blue, ending in an open arch pointing towards the sky, symbolizing loftiness and inspiration. The year 1983 is included, marking the founding date of the department. The logo contains six units representing the six scientific branches in the Department of Computer Science: Software Engineering, Computer and Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Network Management, and Multimedia. These units represent the data specialization in the department, which focuses on using scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and ideas from data. In the top left of the logo, the text 'Computer Science, University of Technology' is represented in binary code (01). A group of small squares indicates the data input unit in computer devices. The geometric shape inside the logo refers to the automation of processes and data using programming and technology for automatic data analysis and processing, without manual intervention, in fields such as e-commerce, medicine, finance, and their management.

Voluntary Work Campaign in the Department of Computer Science for Laboratory Rehabilitation
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and with diligent steps aimed at bringing the laboratories of the Department of Computer Science up to the scientific stature enjoyed by the University of Technology, a voluntary work campaign was carried out. This campaign, led by the Head of the Department with the participation of its faculty and staff, and in collaboration with the Maintenance Division and Services Unit, included financial contributions from the department's lecturers and staff for the rehabilitation of laboratories. The campaign involved painting the laboratory walls, replacing old curtains with modern ones, installing new laptop devices, and setting up the latest software. This campaign is one of a series of voluntary campaigns that the Department of Computer Science regularly organizes.

Computer Science students participate in the Big Challenge Virtual Competition
Students from the Department of Computer Science (Abdulqudus Hamed Musleh and Russul Mohammed Hussein from the fourth stage / Multimedia branch, and Murtadha Jassim Hussein from the third stage / Software branch) participated in the Big Challenge Virtual Competition organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Student Activities Department, from October 23, 2023, to December 23, 2023. This competition, open to all Iraqi public and private universities, includes several axes, including a technological axis in which the University of Technology participated.

he lecturers (Assistant Lecturer Dalia Tariq Khudair, Assistant Lecturer Rasha Mohammed Mohsen, Doctor Mona Ghazi Abdul Sahib, Assistant Lecturer Rasha Ismail Ahmed, and Instructor Inas Tariq Khudair) from the Department of Computer Science participated in the training course titled (Introduction to C# Language), organized by the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Technology from January 7th to 11th, 2024. This course is one of a series in which the department's faculty participate to improve the quality of education. The course aimed to develop the lecturers' abilities and skills in the C# language. It included two main components: the theoretical aspect, which involved lectures covering the basics and principles of C# language, and the second component focused on enhancing practical skills. At the conclusion of the course, the lecturers expressed their engagement and the benefits they gained from the material presented.

Head of the Computer Science Department at the University of Technology Participates in the Meeting of the Deans Committee of Computer Science and Information Technology Held at the University of Mosul
The Head of the Computer Science Department at the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Alaa Kadhim Farhan, participated in the meeting of the Deans Committee of Computer Science and Information Technology, held at the University of Mosul on Thursday, January 11, 2024. The meeting was presided over by the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Duha Bashir Abdullah, with the attendance of 17 deans from 12 Iraqi provinces. The meeting focused on discussing the current situation of government universities and proposing strategies for their improvement. The agenda also included reviewing requests related to the establishment of new preliminary studies and scientific curricula. At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, extended his gratitude to the deans for their participation by issuing letters of thanks and appreciation.

A doctoral thesis in the Computer Science Department discussed a proposal for a secure electronic voting system based on multi-biometric measurements and post-quantum cryptography
The Computer Science Department discussed the doctoral thesis titled 'Proposed Secure E-Voting System Based on Multi Biometric and Post Quantum Cryptography' by the doctoral student Asmaa Ibrahim Hussein, in Computer Science, on Monday, 2024/1/8, in the department's discussion hall, attended by the head of the Computer Science Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan. The thesis aims to design a secure electronic voting system based on multi-biometric measurements and post-quantum cryptography. The thesis presents a secure and important electronic voting system for managing elections at the highest levels of quality, consisting of stages including voter registration, key exchange authentication, voting, and verification. The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Muthil Imaduddin Abdul-Munim as the chairman, and members Prof. Dr. Sakina Hassan Hashem, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shatha Habib Jafar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein Ali, Prof. Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlood as a member and supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Ikhlas Khalaf Kabashi as a member and supervisor."

Under the patronage and presence of the President of the University of Technology, the Department of Computer Science signs a twinning agreement with Al-Mustaqbal University, College of Sciences.
In embodiment of the principle of integration and cooperation between public universities and private universities, and in execution of the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the memorandum of understanding and cooperation (twinning) between the University of Technology / Department of Computer Science and Al-Mustaqbal University / College of Sciences was signed. The signing took place today, Thursday, 2024/1/4, in the presence of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghban. The agreement was signed on behalf of the University of Technology / Department of Computer Science by the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Alaa Kazem Farhan, and on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University by the Dean of the College of Sciences, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani. The aim of the agreement is to sign a memorandum for scientific cooperation and twinning between the Artificial Intelligence branch and the Computer Security and Cybersecurity branch at the University of Technology, with the Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity departments at Al-Mustaqbal University College of Sciences. The agreement seeks to enhance scientific and cultural cooperation between the two universities and to build strong bonds. It includes several clauses such as the Bologna Process, exchange of expertise between the teaching staff of both universities, enhancing student activities to develop joint programs, and organizing workshops, seminars, and scientific conferences to support the educational journey. The signing was attended by the Scientific Assistant in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Abeer Tariq Mawlood, the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Saadoun Mahdi, the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Branch, Dr. Mustafa Jasim, and the Head of the Computer and Cybersecurity Security Branch, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad Hazem Ibrahim.
